At the recent Agudah Convention, Rabbi Ezra Dweck, approached Rabbi Moshe Malka, Rav of Congregation Ohel Yaakob, located right on the ocean in Deal, NJ. Rabbi Malka was warm to the idea of Adopting a Kollel and invited Rabbi Dweck and Rabbi Yankel Bernfeld to his shul to present the idea to some of the members.
The meeting originally was supposed to be a fact-finding mission to gauge interest and to see if there would be members interesting in becoming gabbaim, but to the great surprise and joy of Rabbi Bernfeld and Rabbi Dweck, the response was totally overwhelming. The members jumped up waving their credit cards saying sign me up now! I don’t need to wait for an official rollout or launch, “We want to join now!” Reb Yankel remarked, “We were amazed and filled with admiration at their zeal to become part of Adopt-a-Kollel.”
